About This Quote

In Norse mythology, Odin is a god and the father of the gods and men. He gives the gift of victory to those who deserve it and he gives battle and death to those who do not. This quote comes from the Edda written by Snorri Sturlusson, one of the most respected Scandinavian historians. The poem was about how Odin had given victory to those who deserved it and betrayed those who did not. The epitome of this idea is in Valhalla, where Odin has chosen those who died in battle as well as those who were betrayed by their friends to reside there forever.
